DARKE | gallery is pleased to present An Echo, A Trace, a solo exhibition by Houston artist Regina Agu. The opening reception is Friday, May 3, 6-9 PM. The exhibition continues through Saturday, June 1, 2013.  Bombay Sapphire Gin Bar and complimentary valet parking are provided.

An Echo, A Trace, is an investigation into intersections of history and memory. The work addresses contemporary cosmologies, futurism, and storytelling.  Agu's newest series of drawings and collages focus on layered regional and cultural histories, traces of which are often hidden, obscured, or forgotten.  The artist's research includes personal and family narratives and archives, oral histories, and historical records.

Agu is an interdisciplinary artist based in Houston, TX.  Born in Houston Agu was raised traveling overseas throughout Africa and Europe.  She is a graduate of Cornell University.  Her work has been included in exhibitions and public readings at New Museum (NY), Textile Arts Center (NY), Fresh Arts (TX), Mountain View College (TX), labotanica (TX), and Project Row Houses (TX), among other venues.  In 2011 she was an Associate Artist in Residence at Atlantic Center for the Arts, and was selected for the DW(2) Development Workshops at DiverseWorks.  Agu is a 2012 Houston Arts Alliance Individual Artist Grant recipient.
